How to comment on a planning application.

What you should know about the Planning Explorer

  • Search speed - the system can sometimes be very slow and you may be left with the 'searching...' message for a long time before the information comes up. This happens when a lot of people are using the system at once. If it is really slow, try re-visiting the site later.
  • Searching by ward, parish or applicant name: if you choose to search by any of these on their own the system will 'freeze' with the 'searching...' message. However, if you refine your search further (e.g. choose a date range as well as a ward or parish) then it will work OK. We are working to fix this bug.
  • Related documents (e.g. application form, plans, Decision Notice etc.) - currently we have scanned documents going back to May 2005, so you won't find the application form, plans or Decision Notices from applications before then.
  • Building Control applications - we are not currently publishing information about these on our website. We do have plans to do so in the future but we don't yet have a date when they will be available.
  • Planning application reference numbers - if you search the planning explorer by the application reference number, make sure you use the correct format. Valid reference numbers begin with the year, then a forward-slash, then the unique reference - e.g. 2006/1234
  • Mozilla Firefox users: we are aware that the Planning Explorer can cause problems if you are using the Mozilla Firefox browser, and we are working to fix these. We are keen to hear what kinds of problems Firefox users get, so please use our online feedback form if you are experiencing problems.

If you have experienced a problem with the explorer that isn't covered above, please tell us about it by following the feedback link below.
